We came to Landry’s for my husband’s birthday. We usually come 2-3 times a year (for each of our birthdays and for our anniversary). We’d been anticipating this particular visit because we’ve been working extremely hard and it was the first time we’ve gone out and/or spent money in months. We typically go to Landry’s for our birthdays and anniversary because the quality of the food has always been consistent for us. And the service as well (usually)… Tonight, however, we felt a little snubbed. We don’t typically make a big deal about the “event” we are celebrating; however, “the waiter” – whose name I’m fully aware of and carefully leaving out because I’m NICE (trying to sell us on the Landry’s VIP card) mentioned something about birthdays and we noted we were there for my husband’s birthday. We intended to order dessert regardless, but in the past the celebratory desserts have always been complimentary. This waiter didn’t even acknowledge the birthday, except for to say that he wished he could give us a free dessert but that “they” really want you to buy a VIP card so they can “track it.” We spent over $100 without the dessert on just the two of us. This included “Cadillac” margaritas which we didn’t actually specify (nor were made aware of until our bill). Maybe that’s how they do things now. Maybe “waiter” thought we deserved the best; however, based on his apathetic attitude, in no way did we feel special or even appreciated for our patronage. Disappointing. We, on the other hand, were overly upbeat and complimentary about the food and about the pleasant experiences we’ve had in the past. While the compliments weren’t directly related to him, he was “glad to hear that.” We rarely go out to dinner – nor spend so much – but when we do, it USED to be Landrys.
